Last entry before my trip

In just a few hours, I'll be heading over to the airport for a trip to Argentina and maybe Uruguay with my dad. As I already said, I'm going to be out for two and a half weeks and I really don't expect to be able to blog from there, even if I get my hands on a comfortable wi-fi connection since I'm going to be focusing much more on actually enjoying the trip and going out a lot on my own.

So, there will be almost three entire weeks of inactivity in the blog, if you read this site for any reason, I'm not done with the site and haven't given up on it, on the contrary, I have huge plans to start working on it with lots of motivation and help from the outside to turn this place in a small but effective and rather cool gaming site with news, videos, screens, reviews, previews, etc. Instead of just posting my activities, which will still happen, but well.

The anime and comics updates will resume when I get back as well, so expect a lot of activity in this place starting in the second week of September. I'm going to give special treat to the games I care the most, like Uncharted 3, Halo Anniversary, Ninja Gaiden 3 and Final Fantasy XIII-2, among others of course.

Wish me luck and a great trip around a great country like Argentina, I hope I'll be able to endure the cold down there. See you all soon!

Halo Reach finished!

I just finished Halo Reach, I was much closer to the ending than I thought at first. I hate the Jackals in this game, they're so annoying, especially the shielded ones when you don't have a DMR or Needle Rifle available. Still, I enjoyed the game a LOT, I'd actually like to go through the entire series again and hell I might actually do it.

Reach is probably my favorite game in the series, the weapon balance is great, just like in Halo 1 (with the exception of Combat Evolved's shitty Needler). As a matter of fact, I didn't use the human weapons very much, except the DMR which is clearly the best in the game. I also LOVE the freaking Elites in this game, they're probably and most likely the best enemy I've fought in a first person shooter.

After I finished the game, I decided to change the helmet and colors of my Spartan, I always used a purple/green variant with the Military Police helmet. Now I'll play with a ODST helmet in a yellow/blue color variant. I'd like to try my hand at the multiplayer again, see if I can practice enough to get at least half as good as my friends and probably earn the right to unlock some of the helmets that require higher rankings.

Halo Reach halfway through

I started Halo Reach tonight and played it a LOT. I'm a little after Kat gets killed by a luck Jackal Sniper. I'm going to do everything in my power to finish it tomorrow night. I hope it can be done. I'm using the DMR, Covenant Sniper and plasma weapons a lot, I don't find the Assault Rifle very useful, especially for the Elites and Brutes.

The game is hard, I'm dying a lot but I'm enjoying it, that's what's important. I like running around trying to find the best way to kill my enemies. One thing that I find curious is that the Warthog's machine gun is much weaker in this game than in the previous entries, you can notice that when trying to destroy a small Covenant ghost or banshee.

I think the game should be over in about two or three more hours of gameplay, I hope I get enough time to do it becaose tomorrow will be a very busy day. I'm going out to have lunch with my girlfriend and then I need to prepare my bags for the trip.

In other news, I have a kinda big idea to implement in the blog but before elaborating it or even try to work on it, I'll take the trip as an opportunity to plan things in a better way. In short, what I want to do is to slowly turn the blog into a site with gaming news, since I noticed that I haven't used the news tab at all. Another thing would be to fill the videos and music tag with at least 5 videos every week. Again, I'll plan things and elaborate the whole thing once I come back from Argentina.

Halo 3 ODST finished in one night

I started Halo 3: ODST about 8 hours ago and the game was so incredible that I just went and finished it in one single night. I just ended the campaign and the truth is that I believe I might actually have enough time to finish the entire series before I travel. Tomorrow in the afternoon I'll start Reach and do what I can to finish it in a couple of days. I think it might be possible.

It bothers me a little that Bungie changes the way the weapons work so much for each game. In ODST I found myself comfortable with the Plasma Rifle and Carbine most of the times, the Pistol is good as well but God, the Assault Rifle is way too weak to kill even at mid-distance. The truth is that I believe the best weapon balance in the series is in Reach where you can actually kill anything with any weapon.

I also find ODST's plot more interesting than Halo 3's which I finished last night, but I love the entire series, I wanna play some firefight and multiplayer matches with my friends before going out of the country, but I guess it won't be possible. Anyway, that's the quick update of the night. I finished ODST and will start Reach tomorrow.

Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown coming to XBLA and PSN

This is great news! One of my favorite fighting games that I never got the chance to get good at is coming back as a stand-alone XBLA and PSN title. VF5FS is the last update to the arcade versions of VF5 in Japan. Lets remember that the PS3 version is "B" while the Xbox 360 one is "C". After the 360 version several updates ocurred adding new animations, clothes, arenas, balance patches and even a couple of completely new playable characters.

According to Sega, we won't need any of the physical copies of VF5 to play FS, as it's going to be sold as an XBLA and PSN exclusive. It's supposedly coming in summer 2012, a year from now, so I'm VERY excited to know about htis. I'm most likely going to buy it for the XBLA because I have much more free HDD space on my Xbox 360 than on my PS3. I'll post more info as it becomes available on the websites I usually visit.

Halo 3 is over

I finished Halo 3's campaign tonight. The truth is that I think this is the worst of all five Halo campaigns made by Bungie. The game is very good but the expectations Halo 2 originally made were not met in the Xbox 360 game, several parts are very annoying, like the revisit of High Charity or the ending with the warthog.

I wanted to finish all the campaigns before my trip but I don't think I'll have enough time, I only have tuesday, wednesday and thursday to play because I'm leaving on friday morning. I could have time to finish ODST but I fear that I'm gonna have to travel and leave it unfinished. But no matter what, ODST and Reach will be replayed after I come back from Argentina.

Something else that's bothering me a little is that I want to play something while I'm on the trip even though I'm going to be on lots and lots of tours around several cities, but in the capital, Buenos Aires I could take the opportunity and play a little in the hotel rooms before going to bed. I'm mostly thinking about Ocarina of Time 3D, which I haven finished yet and Dissidia 012 but I could add something like Tactics Ogre or Star ocean 1 and 2, just to mess around.

I will also take a couple of anime series with me to watch on the planes and hotel rooms, most likely Code Geass and Blue Dragon, to advance as much as the trip allows me. I will do my best to post some updates here in Argentina, I expect the hotels to have PCs for the customers or even wi-fi connection to be able to post from my iPod, PSP or 3DS.

Halo 4 E3 2011 Debut Trailer [HD]

The Halo 4 trailer, from YouTube!

Halo 3 campaign is go!

I just started Halo 3, I played the campaign for about an hour and a half and I enjoyed it much more than I thought. H3's single player is the one I liked the least of all five games, especially because the story and battles were not what I expected, given the things Halo 2 managed to do, another aspect that kills this game for me is the lack of the Elites in the campaign but oh well ODST doesn't have any elites as well.

I wanted to play more of it but it's really late and I should start to settle down and just watch a little TV before going to sleep. Tomorrow will be kind of busy because I need to do some arrangements about the trip and I need to check the news during the afternoon to be able to write at least a couple of articles for a news website some friends from college are building.

Halo: Anniversary Trailer

This is simply magical.

Gaming novels incoming next month

A thing that got me interested in the last days is that I want to read gaming novels. This monday I purchased a couple of the Splinter Cell ones in a local bookstore and I haven't started any of them since I'm saving them for my trip to Argentina. But I talked to my dad about buying some cheap ones from Amazon and he said yes, after the trip. Excellent.

I'm currently interested in the three Halo novels I don't already own, Contact Harvest, Ghost of Onyx and The Cole Protocol. I already own Fall of Reach, First Strike and The Flood and they're excellent. Fortunately they come in a bundled box at 16 dollars, very cheap so I'm definitely getting them.

Another one that I'm actually interested is the Ico novel that came out just a few days ago. I own the original PS2 game (that is extremely tricky to find nowdays I must say) and to be honest, I got bored of it about halfway through, but I think a book is a much better way to tell the story about how the horned boy and the white princess walk around the empty castle.

Besides those, I think I'm gonna give a chance to the Unreal novels, they're VERY cheap (if you get them used), one of them is actually being sold at three dollars, I can't let an opportunity like that escape, and finally the Mass Effect ones, there are three of them according to a friend and I could get them to have a good small library of gaming books to read in the following months and 2012.

The new Marvel vs Capcom 3 characters look sweet

Other the past few weeks six new characters that will be available in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 were revealed, two of them yesterday. In Capcom's side we'll get Strider, Nemesis and Firebrand while in Marvel's one we'll be able to play as Hawkeye, Ghost Rider and Dr Strange.

I gotta say that I'm personally excited about Strider and Ghost Rider, this last one should have been in the game to begin with in my opinion but well... His combos looks very sweet and he doesn't seem very hard to play as. In the other hand, Strider looks like another version of Zero, Wolverine or Felicia. I don't think he'll be very easy to use but his moves definitely look amazing.

Now, the curious thing is that I don't like MvC3's battle system very much because it forces people to just watch as they're being victims of a combo without the possibility of defending themselves, among other things. But I'll definitely get my hands on UMvC3 to see what it is about. If you ask me which characters I'd like to see, well of course Megaman and Venom.

Halo 2 is over!

I just finished my 25th or so run of Halo 2. I started just after the Arbiter is sent near the control room by the Gravemind and he finds out about Halo's true purpose and the Prophets betrayal. The game is much harder than Halo 1. I died a fucking whole lot during the entire campaign. If it were 2004 or 2005 I'd definitely make another run of the game just to try and die less but I can't, since Halo 3 will be starting tomorrow.

What I'm trying to do is to finish all five Halo games made by Bungie before my trip to have everything fresh and just because I felt like doing it. I'm planning on starting the RPG I've been wanting to play after I come back to Venezuela. I think I'll do Star Ocean 4 and then Blue Dragon if I finish watching its anime series.

Besides the campaigns I'm going to play lots of multiplayer and firefight during the weekend to try and get at least a little better at the game. We could try Halo 1, 3 and Reach since we can't play Halo 2 at my friend's house becuase he refuses to connect his consoles to the internet. Oh well, I'd have loved to try a few runs of Lockout and Ivory Tower. So, expect a few Halo 3 posts during the rest of the week. I'd like to have it finished by friday to then go to ODST during the weekend.

About my trip and possible lack of post in early-September

This post here is more of a personal thing rather than something related to gaming, anime, comics or figure collecting, the stuff I usually talk about in the forum. But I feel the need to make it because if for any reason you follow my blog and the articles on it, starting on August 26th I might be unable to post for two weeks.

I've mentioned before that I'm going on a trip but never said where. I'm going to Argentina to visit several cities in the south of the country, taking the opportunity that it is winter down there. I'll be traveling with my father and if I'm lucky I'll be seeing a friend who lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina's capital.

I'll be staying in good hotels and I assume that they will all offer internet connection by either free wi-fi which I would be accessing from my iPod Touch or by offering actual computers. If its the latter, I'll be able to post at least once or twice each of the two weeks with whatever I can say about gaming and geeky stuff I find down in Argentina.

Besides the tours around the glaciers, food, museums and all those things I'm really excited about, I'll be constantly trying to find stores with geek stuff on them to see if my trip can actually get me some interesting material for the blog.

More pics of Menace's figure from Queen's Blade

I know it's a little hard to find pictures of the figures from Queen's Blade sometimes so I'm uploading a few of my Menace for everyone to look at and encourage them to buy her, she's incredible. Definitely one of the best figures I own.

Splinter Cell novels

This afternoon I went with my girlfriend to one of the local bookstores because I wanted to buy some short and easy-to-read book for my trip to Argentina. Especially because I'll be traveling by plane six time in two weeks because I'll be visiting four different cities in the country. I already knew about them having a couple of Splinter Cell novels in stock and it got me interested even though I've never played a SC game. I bought them because they were somewhat cheap. It might be cool because their synopsis seem interesting, I'll give them a try during my trip.

If I do finish one of them while I'm out of the country, I'll post some opinions here. I will also look in Amazon to see if more of them are available just in case I end up liking them. In the meantime it's just gaming and anime for me.

Mai Shiranui's figure pictures

As I mentioned in yesterday's entry. I got the world-famous figure of Mai Shiranui from the King of Fighters videogame franchise. While she's very beautiful and all I gotta say that it's no my favorite figure. First of all, it was clearly owned by at least one person before me because the blister was in a horrible shape and I can't help but notice that she has some serious and sudden changes of skin color in several parts of her body.

Her arms, face and breasts are colored extremely differently than her legs and butt. I believe this might be the result of degradation of the painting over the years, lets remember that this figure is actually from the early 2000s. I don't know exactly.

I like it a lot but I don't think I'll be showing her in my room right now because she's way too big to be posed next to Menace and the BOMEs, and if I try to put her next to my McFarlane or Marvel figures, things will look extremely awkward. So I don't really think I'll be showing her. In fact, I might take the opportunity and probably just wait a few years and sell her in the future. I'll have to do something about the broken box though.

Anyway, here are the pics:

Halo gameplay, new anime series and gaming novels that I want

I spent the entire weekend playing Halo games with my buddies and I enjoyed it a lot. I went to a friend's house and started with a little of Halo 2's campaign because we were four and only had two Xbox 360 controllers so we couldn't play multiplayer. We played a bit of the High Charity mission I'm currently at in my personal run before moving on to Halo Reach.
Then we started to compete a little to see which team could get the more points at Firefight in Legendary difficulty. After a few tries we managed to get around 20k points in each match which is not much but it means that we started to learn how to stand our ground when fighting the Elites and Hunters, the two strongest and most difficult-to-kill races in the Covenant in that game.
We then moved on to ODST's firefight and Halo 3's campaign. We're very excited about Halo 1's remake and will probably be spending much of our gaming time in these games when we are together. I feel like starting to become more frequent in Reach's multiplayer. I even might play a few matches tomorrow night.
In other news, I went to a local mall with a few anime stores with my friend because he wanted to get a few DVDs from a list he made. I ended up buying a few series myself. I got my hands in K-On, FLCL, Valkyria Chronicles (I loved the PS3 game and didn't even know an anime of it existed to be honest), Samurai Champloo, Princess Mononoke and Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls.
Since I spend so much of my free time on gaming, it is gonna take a while before I watch all of these series and write my articles about them but I know they will be ready eventually. Hell, I haven't even finished watching Blue Dragon and Code Geass, even though I like them a LOT. But well, I think I will be watching them slowly but steadily.
In the mall, I also got my hands in one of Mai Shiranui's plastic figures. Mai is the bouncy ninja from the SNK games Fatal Fury and King of Fighters, she's very famous and her figure is usually available at extremely ridiculous prices like 250$. In fact, I didn't even post her in my figure article the other day because I think the price is too high for a figure that is not the best I've seen, but the chinese girl in the store was selling Mai at an equivalent to around 50 bucks so I saw a great opportunity to invest in her and probably sell her in the future. I was saving that money for one or two games in my trip but oh well. I'll post a group of figures of the statue tomorrow maybe.
Then, I'm actually thinking about investing a little in gaming novels. One of the things I've always believed I need to do is read books, and given the career I'm studying it's logical. Now, don't get me wrong, I read a fucking whole lot, just not actual books. But the truth is that sometimes I get bored when sitting in my bed reading a book and I know that I need to change that pronto.
So I've been thinking about starting with small and easy-to-read novels from gaming worlds. I read the Halo novel "Fall of Reach" about a year or so ago and I loved it. There are several very cheap ones available in Amazon like a couple books from Unreal, a very old game from 1998 that is actually one of my favorite FPS games ever, their prices are about 4 or 5 dollars for the used ones and I think I'll give them a try.
There are also the Splinter Cell novels available in my local bookstores and they look very interesting. The Mass Effect novels are also in Amazon but there are so many of them that I don't know where to begin. Fortunately, one of my best friends is a huge Mass Effect fan and he actually read a couple of the books so I'll just ask him.
